Dedicated Server High Uptime Offers Possible Or Not?
Some dedicated server offerings advertise 100% uptime but whether they can actually provide that is another thing altogether.
Even though on a dedicated server you're not having to worry about someone hammering the server like you would on shared hosting, that doesn't mean that something cant go down on a dedicated server, even for a short time.
The reality is that the hosting provider, in nearly all cases is not referring to server time, even though it may be advertised that way or look like that to a visitor to their site, but instead they mean network time.
And when maintenance needs to be performed then theres bound to be at least a little downtime unless the company can somehow avoid this with their setup.
Even for a reboot, which has to be done at least occasionally, these normal and unavoidable tasks mean that they are going to affect the uptime of the actual server.
So when a web hosting provider offers 100% uptime, maybe suggested in a non specific way or maybe even stating 100% server uptime, its usually not realistic to expect that they could provide this.
That doesn't mean that the uptime will be bad either, just that with the reality of failures occasionally with hardware or software means that a dedicated server package offered with 100% uptime is either misread, misunderstood or as mentioned, usually referring to network uptime or of course badly advertised in a hope of you choosing a providers package.
