At this time of year for those of us who have just enjoyed christmas day and will continue enjoying the holidays it can be nice to take a bit of a break from all of the responsibilities of running your websites and you may have put a plan in place to make sure that your websites are still updated and dealt with by someone else during the christmas and new year time or you may have selected a time to check back with your sites to see how everything is doing.

Depending on the interest in your websites and the type that your running, you will usually see one of two things at the holiday time, either a significant drop in traffic to your websites or actually an increase in traffic because you may have the type of site appealing to people during the holidays, maybe entertainment related in some way.

Some web hosting companies may operate on minimal staff during the holiday season and this doesn’t mean that they wont be keeping an eye on their servers but just that less staff may be available to keep an eye on things and deal with any problems as they arise.

Even though you may not be able to take much time out from spending time with your family and friends it can make a difference if you can check back with your sites maybe a couple of times a day, just for a few minutes to check that they are online, that theres no hostng problems and that if you sell from your website that you are not losing sales because you hadn’t realised that your website was down due to a server issue.

It would be a real disappoint to think that while your enjoying the christmas and new year season that your website is operating as normal and your maybe making sales, only to return to your computer to see that they have been down for 5 days or something and that if you had known you could of contacted your web hosting provider to attempt to sort out any problems.

You may be away from your own home, maybe travelled to a relatives house to stay with them over the holidays, you possibly have set a rule for yourself, or someone could of banned computer and internet use during the festive season in an attempt to have proper family time together, but if you explain the importance to them and your relative has internet access ask them if you can spend a few minutes at their computer to check and see if all of your websites are still online.

If at all possible, try and take just a few minutes daily to monitor your websites and make sure they are still accessible.
