Downgrading Your Web Hosting

With websites being relatively cheap to setup it means that some webmasters get quite excited about owning many different sites and can sometimes get a little carried away with registering new domains and installing free scripts, trying to target as many niches as they can.

Quite often you will find that this is all done on shared hosting, not always but its quite often the case as the webmaster trys to keep certain costs down.

But if you find yourself doing this and you’re using VPS hosting or even a Dedicated Server then its worth taking a look at how much you’re paying out each month if after a while you find yourself scaling back on the amount of sites that you’re running.

Sometimes your reason for wanting to have less websites after a while may be because of a lack of time to keep up with them all.

In the past you might have had a vision that you would need a large hosting package and had plans that now seem less interesting to you, so without even realising it you’re maybe paying for a hosting package thats way bigger and feature filled than you need.

This is where you need to look at how your decisions over the last few months or the last year or two may have changed the amount of hosting that you need now.

After all, its not always about upgrading, sometimes you need to downgrade, you might not feel like changing your web hosting provider so its useful if your current host allows you to downgrade to the next plan down from your current one.

Not all hosts are prepared to do this for you but some may mention it on their site, while others wont mention it but if you ask them, just incase you need to do this in the future then some will actually be prepared to do this.

Some web hosts would rather do this for you and keep you as a customer rather than simply say no and possibly lose you to another provider.

If you dont need the amount of hosting that you’re paying for then theres no reason to carry on with a large expensive plan when you can go for something more fitting with your current needs.

None of us know how website launches are going to turn out, sometimes we can have big ideas that for whatever reason dont happen as we imagined, so when you come to this realization, do yourself a favour, save yourself some money and downgrade your hosting if you need to.
