Nameserver Changes And Seeing The Wrong Page
A few days ago i had changed the nameserver information for a domain at godaddy where all of my domains are, i had just purchased a new domain i think the day before and had only changed the nameservers for that domain to the nameservers for my UK hosting account about an hour before attempting to install a script on that new domain.
Well usually i have a new domain in my possession for at least a few weeks before i begin to work on getting a site up on a domain, i just like to get them purchased and secured so that i know i have the domain that i wanted.
Well on the new domain mentioned above i uploaded the script files through ftp then went to the domain to begin installation, only to see a parked page, i went back into godaddy to make sure that i had set the nameservers correctly for the UK hosting account that i intended to use and i had done all of that correctly.
I asked around and was told that it can take 24 – 48 hours for domain propagation to occur and then you will be able to see the page that you expect to see and not a parked page, like in my case.
I was aware of propagation but i thought that there was maybe some other reason for my domain showng this parked page, but i was reassured that it was perfectly normal and sure enough, the next morning when i visited the Url of my new puurchased domain it was displaying the page that i wanted it to display, which was the installation page for the script that i had uploaded and no longer the parked page.
So if you ever change the nameservers for a domain, especially a new one and upon visiting the domain you see a page that you feel shouldn’t be there, then in most cases it will just be a case of needing to wait until propagation has occured and then you will be able to see your website or whatever you may have uploaded to the domain.
