Spreading Out Your Web Hosting Usage

This wont apply to someone that has a single website but for those that operate quite a few sites and that may be tempted to throw them all onto the one account then it may be better (if you can afford it) to take out seperate web hosting accounts, ideally at different providers.

Some webmasters like to interlink their websites for promotional reasons, an approach that can be a little risky at times with regards to how the search engines see this.

But having your websites interlinked and all on one IP within just one web hosting account is generally not a good idea.

Spreading out the hosting of your sites on seperate accounts, say if you have 20 websites, then splitting them up into 2 - 3 accounts may be a better idea.

This doesn't have to start costing you a lot as they may just be affordably priced shared hosting plans, and theres also the benefit that should you experience any major issues that may lead to you wanting to escape one of the hosting accounts pretty quickly then you have your other accounts ready, sort of like a reserve home for your websites, like an emergency location for them so that you can get them moved quickly and not have them suddenly offline.

If you do choose to link some of your own websites together then the fact that some of them are on different IP's will be slightly better than having linked them when their hosted all on one account under one IP.

Spreading out the hosting of your websites also gives you a chance to test various providers, you may find a bunch of your sites at one webhost are rarely experiencing any downtime or other issues while at another they may have many problems, you can then move the sites hosted at a poorer quality provider to one of your better accounts, either as a temporary measure or as a permanent home.

You never know what may happen in the future at any hosting provider that you use, so at least having your websites spread out among a few means that should anything go terribly wrong at one of them then you are not experiencing the headache of this across all of your sites and your not left with such a big issue to sort out.
