Creating Addon Domains in cPanel

If your hosting account has cPanel and also allows you to host multiple domains on the one account then you will want to know how to set them up so that you can make the most of your hosting account and get those websites up and running.

Its not difficult and doesn't take long at all, so lets get straight to it and get those Addon domains setup.

First you need to login to cPanel and find the Addon Domains icon or link and click on either to take you to the next page called "Addon Domain Maintenance" you should see three input fields labelled New Domain Name, Username and Password.

Enter the full domain name, and a chosen username and password for that domain then click Add Domain and you should see a message to let you know that you have been successful in creating the directory for the addon domain.

What happens is that it creates a subdirectory so that the website files are all kept in a directory within your account specifically for that domain.

To add more domains you just repeat the process for each domain that you would like to setup a website for within your account and using a different username and password for each addon domain.

Simple and quick isn't it :) now you can make the most of hosting multiple websites within your hosting account.

Simple Web Hosting

Sometimes all you need is a basic solution to a website project and the usual extras and tempting offers may not be needed by you for a website that you plan to put together, so if you dont need a hosting package with databases and allsorts thrown in then theres no point in paying for what you dont need.

In this case it can be worth looking for a webhost that isn't including 100 databases and unlimited domains within the account and whatever else may be included when you know that you just wont use it and you can instead find a package that gives you just what you need, with enough space if your website is not the type to grow in disk space size and a nice amount of bandwidth that is more fitting with the expectations of the popularity of your website.

If you go for a more modest amount of disk space and maybe a package that provides just one database as standard ( you know, just incase you ever choose to use it ) and the service sold to you is clearly not oversold then you may end up doing pretty well with the other inportant factors like good uptime and possibly good support.

If you know you only need 100MB or 500MB disk space then try and get something close to that, theres no need to go for a package promising 5GB when you will only be hosting one small site on that account.

There are so many different sized web hosting packages out there offered by the huge amount of web hosting companies to choose from and everyone is catered for, thats the good part, you know that you can find just the right amount, so if just a little is all that you need then look for just that.

That doesn't mean that the larger packages are not sought after, because there are plenty of customers who need a much larger and feature packed hosting service for the hosting of multiple websites and using plenty of databases and other features, but if you know that you are not one of those types of customers then you will probably be much happier by choosing the small package at some smaller independant webhosts and not overwhelmed by a mass of features that you just dont want or need.

Keep it nice and simple if that is all that you need.

Reseller Web Hosting As A Business

If you go browsing on web hosting forums, as well as browsing in general for web hosting companies and informaton, you may well have come across the term Reseller Web Hosting, and basically what that usually means is that someone has started up their own web hosting service and can provide a full service to you but they are operating using the hardware ( in most cases ) and with the other things involved using a web hosting company that offers reseller accounts so that the services can be passed onto the customer.

Its a chance for an individual, like me or you to be able to run a small web hosting service of our own without having to spend huge amounts of cash on hardware and a setup that would be out of reach to most people.

Typically as a reseller you will be responsible for dealing with any customers signed up to your services and dealing with their questions and problems to a degree and then any hardware problems and more technical situations are dealt by the company who actually provide you with the reseller opportunity, so you dont need to be a technical expert, but you do need to be reasonably able to deal with customers in a professional and expected manner.

Although you can have your service completely branded as your own and can be recognised as a web hosting services provider, you are still operating under the strength or weakness of the hosting company that provide you, so its important to get things right and to deal with each part of the business accordingly.

Some resellers will use a dedicated server of their own which they rent from a web host company, so this leaves a certain amount of extra responsibility with you as a reseller.

So if you have thought about becoming a reseller and feared that you have to be technically knowledgeable this isn't neccessary, but being able to deal with the setup as a whole and to be organsed and professional is important.

If you believe that you can handle it quite well then you could find a nice opportunity to start your own business as a reseller of web hosting services.
