Moving on from using shared hosting and into VPS hosting may have you wondering if you need to know anything technical with regards to the server and what you may have to deal with that was taken care of by the hosting company when you were using shared hosting.

Your VPS will usually come secured by the provider that you choose and also configured and often the hosting company can perform other security measures upon request for you and help you with updating anything that may not be on automatic update, usually the control panel for example will not require you to update applications but this is dependant on the control panel that you will be using.

Ask the company that you’re interested in using if they can assist you with certain things, some will include security upgrades and installations without charge but be sure of what they are able to do for you with regards to handling of the VPS before you actually decide on a VPS package.

But in general you should be able to handle VPS without it being difficult and it should not require you to be overly technical and where possible the hosting provider will usually assist you with increasing security and dealing with any upgrades when neccessary.
